Unscrew the oil plug
Select the correct key that will fit the plug. Place it on and start unscrewing. Turn the key carefully in order not to break the thread or head, otherwise, it`ll cause you a lot of problems in the future. If the plug doesn't yield, you can use an impact wrench (if available).
Be careful, as immediately after you unscrew the plug, the oil will pour out of it. Be ready for this, place the container, and don't get dirty.

Let the oil drain
Wait until all the oil has drained. Since you unscrewed the oil filler cap (on top of the engine) before, this process will take no more than a few minutes.
Inspect the oil carefully. What spilled out of the engine? Is everything okay? Are there no shavings, debris, or small particles?
If you see something similar to the above-mentioned, this may be a sign of some issue with the engine, which may require contact with a mechanic.
Screw the oil plug back into place
Before screwing in the plug, we recommend using a rag to wipe the plug itself and its seat from oil. You can use a degreaser or WD-40 for this. This is a simple but necessary action.
If the plug is completely covered in oil, then over time it may simply stick to its place, and you`ll have to make a lot of effort to unscrew it. Therefore, it is easier to immediately think about this moment and protect yourself from problems in the future.
Screw the oil plug back into place. If your oil plug has a gasket, it`s advised to change it for a new one to avoid any possible oil leaks. Choose the tightening moment correctly. If the plug is tightened badly, the oil will leak out.
However, do not tighten the plug too much; you can break the thread or twist it tightly, and you can't unscrew it again. The correct tightening torque of the oil plug is specified in the vehicle`s owner`s manual.
Unscrew the oil filter
Remove the oil filter. It is located on the side of the engine block. Usually, the filter is unscrewed counterclockwise.
If you can't unscrew the filter (it happens), try to put a leather belt on it, tighten it, and turn it with the belt. The leather of the belt should be securely attached to the metal, forming a lever on the other side of the filter; it should be easy for you to unscrew it.
If it doesn't help, you need a special tool to unscrew the oil filter. Its function is to fix the filter, eliminate the possibility of scrolling, and unscrew it in this way.
Be careful, even after you have drained the oil from the engine, as a small amount of oil remains in the filter. Don`t forget that as soon as you unscrew the filter, the oil will flow. To not get dirty, prepare a rag to be ready to wipe off the oil right away.

Place the new oil filter
It is recommended to lubricate the seal (rubber circle) on the filter with engine oil before installing a new oil filter to facilitate installation and replacement when the time comes. Just stick your finger in the motor oil, wipe it around the seal where the lip is, and you`re done.
Install and screw in the new oil filter. You can pour a little oil into it beforehand, but this is a mandatory step. Some pour, some don't.
The editor of this article does so; it's still up to you to decide. Screw the filter securely so that it doesn't wobble and oil doesn't flow from the gaps.

Fill in new motor oil
After the plug and filter are screwed into place and you are sure that everything is tight, pour in new oil. To do this, unscrew the oil filler cap (on top of the engine, it's a large cap marked with an oil pan icon).
Read about how much oil to put in your engine. Don`t pour too much oil; it can damage the engine.
Periodically check the oil level in the Dodge Charger engine using a dipstick. Stop when the oil level remains below the min and max marks.
This is the optimal level. Screw back the cap of the oil filler neck.
