Title: How to connect Homelink to a Liftmaster in a Dodge Charger
Threaded Mode
#1
Setting up Homelink with a Liftmaster garage door opener in a Dodge Charger can be more frustrating than expected, but once you know the steps, it’s pretty straightforward. If you’re struggling with it like I did, here’s exactly how I managed to get mine working after a few attempts.

First, make sure your car is parked near the garage and that your Liftmaster remote is ready to go. You’ll be using it in the programming process. Before doing anything, ensure your Liftmaster garage door opener is compatible with Homelink. Most newer models are, but if you’ve got an older one, it might require a special compatibility bridge, so it’s worth checking the manual if you're not sure.

To start programming, get inside your Charger and locate the Homelink buttons, which are usually on the overhead console near the rearview mirror. You should see three buttons. First, hold down the two outer buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until the indicator light begins to blink rapidly, which usually takes about 20-30 seconds. This step essentially clears any previous codes that might be stored in the system, so you’re starting with a fresh slate.

Once the light starts blinking, you’re ready to program. Take the Liftmaster remote in one hand and hold it close to the Homelink buttons, ideally just a few inches away from the mirror. Now, choose which Homelink button you want to program to open your garage door—usually, it’s the first one on the left, but you can choose any of the three. Press and hold the button you’ve chosen, while at the same time pressing and holding the open/close button on your Liftmaster remote. You’ll need to hold both buttons down for about 10 seconds or until you see the Homelink indicator light start flashing rapidly again. This flashing means the signal from your Liftmaster remote has been successfully recognized by your Charger’s Homelink system.

At this point, the Homelink system is programmed, but there’s one last step. Most modern garage door openers, including Liftmasters, use a feature called "rolling codes" for added security. This means you’ll need to sync Homelink with the actual Liftmaster unit in your garage. To do this, get out of your car and head over to your garage door opener motor, which is usually mounted on the ceiling. On the back or side of the unit, there should be a button labeled "Learn" or "Program." Press this button once (you might need a ladder depending on how high the motor is mounted), and then return to your Charger within 30 seconds.

Once you're back in the car, press and hold the Homelink button you programmed for your garage door for about 2-3 seconds. If everything went well, your garage door should begin to open or close. If it doesn’t work the first time, don’t panic—sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get the signal synced up. Just repeat the "Learn" button process again if necessary.

That’s basically it! After everything is synced up, your Dodge Charger’s Homelink system will act just like your regular Liftmaster remote, but now it’s built into your car, so you don’t have to fumble around for the remote every time you pull into the driveway. Also, if you have multiple garage doors or other Homelink-enabled devices, you can program the other two buttons using the same process.

I know it can seem like a pain at first (I had to redo it twice before getting it right), but once it's set up, it works seamlessly. Hope this helps anyone else who's had issues!
