So my 2017 Dodge Charger’s cruise control decided to take a vacation, right when I needed it the most for a long highway trip. I’ve gotten pretty used to relying on it for those stretches of open road, so this is definitely throwing a wrench in my driving plans. Has anyone else run into this issue with their Charger?

I’m not sure if this is going to be a simple fix—like a blown fuse or a loose connection—or if I’m dealing with something more serious, like a malfunctioning sensor or an issue with the brake switch. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tackled this problem before. Where should I start troubleshooting?

I’m hoping it’s not something that’ll require a trip to the dealer, but if it is, I’d rather know sooner than later. Any advice on common causes or quick fixes would be awesome. Man, that’s a bummer, especially right before a long trip. I had a similar issue with my 2017 Charger’s cruise control last year. It just decided to stop working out of the blue, and I was in the same boat, hoping it was something simple.

In my case, it turned out to be a problem with the brake light switch. It’s a common culprit when the cruise control goes on strike because if the car thinks the brake is engaged, it won’t let the cruise control kick in. I replaced the switch myself, and it wasn’t too bad—just a bit of a tight squeeze under the dash. If you’re comfortable with basic DIY stuff, it’s definitely worth checking out before taking it to the dealer.
