Title: What Years Dodge Charger Parts Interchange?
Threaded Mode
#1
Dodge Charger parts interchange throughout the years, but there are some years that parts are more interchangeable than others. If you wonder what years of Dodge Charger have interchangeable parts, like engine, suspension, or body parts, then this is the article for you.

What years Dodge Charger parts interchangeable?

First Generation

The original Dodge Charger was introduced as a two-door fastback in 1966. It wasn't perceived as a muscle car initially because it was large and heavy. The only engine type available at the time was a V8, which could come in different sizes depending on whether the customer paired it with a three or four-speed manual transmission.

There was also an automatic three-speed option for those who wanted something more relaxed. The most powerful engine possible was the 7.0 liter 426 Hemi; this configuration produced 425 horsepower overall.

So, cars from 1966-1967 years had almost the same parts.

Second Generation

The second generation of the Dodge Charger came in 1968 and lasted until 1970. This model was redesigned to be sleeker and more aerodynamic. The engine options were less powerful than the previous generation, but they were still V8s. The most powerful engine available was a 440 cubic-inch V8 that could produce 375 horsepower. The body style also changed from a fastback to a notchback, which is when the back window is more horizontal than vertical.

These autos were much more versatile and when it comes to the compatible parts, more interchangeable than others. For instance, the transmission system of 1969 and 1970 Dodge Charger cars was almost identical. And if comparing parts from the first and the second generation, they were also pretty interchangeable.

Third Generation

The third generation of the Dodge Charger was produced from 1971-1974. The 1971 Dodge Charger was set apart by its split grille and slightly more rounded shape. Other features included a rear spoiler and pop-up scoop on the hood. As with earlier models, buyers could choose from several V8 engines as well as an inline six. Three-speed automatic and manual transmissions were available, along with a four-speed manual. The wheelbase shrunk by two inches, while overall length decreased slightly.

New seats were not interchangeable with any other year. Also, some interior components were different, including the door panels and dash. The exterior sheet metal was also different, so parts like fenders, hoods, and quarter panels wouldn't interchange.

Fourth and Fifth Generations

These two generations started at 1975 and up to 1987. The truth is that most parts from these two generations are interchangeable because they were very similar. The main difference was in the grille, which was rectangular in the fourth generation and then became more of a pentagon shape in the fifth generation.

Other than that, these cars had the same engine options and transmissions. They also shared many of the same body panels and interior components. So, if you're looking for parts for your 1975-1987 Dodge Charger, you'll have a pretty good chance of finding interchangeable parts between those years.

Sixth Generation

The sixth generation Charger debuted in 2006 as a four-door sedan, rather than the coupe design of earlier models. This new LX platform created a half-sedan, half-muscle car hybrid; with its more muscular look paying homage to Charger designs of the past. It featured rear or all wheel drive and came equipped with two V6s or two Hemi V8s. Transmission choices included either a four or five speed automatic option.

As you understand, most parts were not compatible with previous generations, but there were a few exceptions. First, the 2006-2007 Charger shared the same front grille with the 2005 Chrysler 300. So, if you're looking to replace your Charger's grille, you can find one from a 2005 Chrysler 300.

Conclusion

All right, now you know what years Dodge Charger parts interchange. You also know that, in general, later generations are not compatible with earlier ones. However, there are some exceptions; especially when it comes to the front grille, headlights, taillights, and fog lights. So, if you're looking for parts for your Charger, be sure to check out other cars from the same generation to see if they might have what you need.
